Caring for your fountain

Water Management

  • Distilled water is best. Minerals in non-distilled water will precipitate and build up on the pump, the clay, the glaze. If you do get mineral buildup - usually on the lid and rim - soak in vinegar overnight and clean.

  • Water height affects the sound which is created by the water dripping from the holes in the lid to the water inside. The further the water falls, the louder the sound. In general keep the fountain about ½ full.

  • Frequency of replenishment. This depends on the size of the fountain, its location, and the weather. Larger fountains hold more water. Outdoor fountains are affected more by the weather. Hot weather and high winds cause more evaporation. Keep an eye on your fountains water level for the first month or so to learn its basic water needs. If the fountain runs out of water it may burn out the pump.

Cleaning the pump

  • Minerals, mold, hair, and dust. All of these things will accumulate in the water. Mineral precipitation. Mold/algae growth (not very common). Hair and dust from the air. The pump has a rudimentary filter on it that will eventually get clogged and need cleaning. See the video below to see how this is done. (Coming soon.)
